Postage problems

#1 Post by Keithkilvo1 »

Hi all
I sold a S/H scope to someone in Germany a couple of weeks ago.
Not an expensive item (less than £50) I asked if he would like it insured and he replied no send it the cheapest option (£8.95 with Royal Mail)
I have sent him photos of the receipt to prove it was sent.
Scope was sent and it seems, according to the buyer, that it hasn’t arrived.
He as asked me what I can do and as I’ve not been in this sort of situation before I wondered if anyone else had had these type of issues and how they resolved them
Cheers

if payment over paypal, they can still claim, as it's proof of delivery you need, not proof of post.

You offered the option of insured post, he declined. You kept your side and furnished him with proof of posting. His issue is with the German delivery system.

All said, how long has it been? I know in other circa Royal Mail won’t start to investigate until the item has been missing for 28 days. It still may turn up.

I know I was surprised when dealing on international forums a few years ago how many people from outside the EU would not post items to Continental Europe because of the inefficiency and corruption within the national postal services....

if by bank transfer, then you've done all you need to do. you can show you've posted, and they can't run to the bank and complain. nothing more you can do really. RM won't take any involvement as it's not insured, most you might get from filing a claim is a book of stamps

Lucky for you the situation is as Sim G has said.
Personally I never give the option of sending goods without insurance. No sale is worth the amount of back and forth grief that situations such as yours throw up.

Not had a problem buying direct from the EU............sadly, that's likely to change now............my preferred supplier of Lapua stuff will only ship to EU.

As an aside, I hope it was less than 9X magnification as a permanent export licence would have been required, as well as proof of posting.
