Sorry to hear about your family, hope they get the treatment they need and have a full recovery!

Is it not possible to have a compromise? Could you still keep your firearms and ammo at home but leave your keys with your RFD? That way you don't have the burden of transporting your firearms around all the time, plus your family member will not have access to your firearms by "searching" your house for the keys? Might be worth an ask?
