Re: Seriously?
i used to live in the middle of the moors between Lancs and Yorks. There was a grouse moor nearby, complete with keeper and shooting syndicate. The moor was alive, with all sorts of birds and animals, not just grouse. The moor changed hands and was owned by a huge water company. The keeper and syndicate went. For a couple of years, when walking the dog up there, I saw lots of healthy foxes and lots of crows and magpies, Then they disapeared and the moor was dead. I re-located to the midlands in 1985 but we still have friends up there and last year, I again walked the dog on the moor. No life whatsoever. The moor is dead.
I am not a game shooter---I don't like the thought of killing things, but I recognised that these moors are not a purely natural environment. They are man made and need to be looked after.

Re: Seriously?
Typical Labour Blah Blah with no anchor in reality.
I wish they would do the research on the ground, speak to the game keepers, before they announced ludicrous things.
They are messing with a balance that has been there for decades, all nature in the UK is now either man made and/or man managed.
In the UK, because of man's intervention over the centuries there are no top predators left which means that the landscape has to be managed.
We can't save all the hen harriers and at the same time have a thriving moor environment.
Pretty sure I read the other day that even Chris Packham acknowledges that deer has to be culled in order to maintain healthy numbers.

He did indeed say that yes. He's not completely devoid of knowledge when it comes to wildlife. He just doesn't trust people with guns!christel wrote:Typical Labour Blah Blah with no anchor in reality.

Hmm...well he then makes a mess of the grey/red squirrel situation. In fact he has made a mess of an awful lot of situations. I am sure his intentions are good, he just goes about all of them in the wrong wayPippin89 wrote:

Re: Seriously?
He is an idealist. Sure it would be great if all animals were fluffy and friendly and we only killed them for food and we only ate the ugly ones etc... But he catches on to certain species and thinks everything in the world must be done to protect them. Without first getting an understanding of the long term consequences of protecting them. They are normally birds due to his involvement with the RSPB. In the case of deer he understands the need for that because someone in the RSPB has shown him evidence than Nightingale's are as risk due to deer destroying their natural habitat. Unfortunately he is rather selective with the evidence that he believes and the evidence he calls "fake and paid for by shooters". A bit of "Flat Earther" logic creeping in there I feel!christel wrote:Hmm...well he then makes a mess of the grey/red squirrel situation. In fact he has made a mess of an awful lot of situations. Re: Seriously?
Labour still view such sports as a “class thing”. Typical socialist politics of spite and envy.....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!
