Re: Collecting banned?
"suspicion of firearms offences" - fair enough, if they believe there is a good reason, they should investigate.
"large number" of the weapons had been surrendered and "taken away to either be destroyed or sent for further examination". - if they are legally held what justification can there be for destroying them?
"Storing weapons ... whether they are legally held or not, is worrying to say the least" - Sounds like the Inspector is ignorant of the law and a bit of a twunt.

Re: Collecting banned?
Jeez...the shooting community has a problem.
I know this is in Merseyside and I know that we are very likely talking airguns and knives however...how long until it spreads like other things have done, like the medical.
We have collections, I know of others I see socially who has as well. Thank goodness I do not live in a restricted zone like Merseyside, what is wrong with those people.
...and who on earth ratted on that person!?

Re: Collecting banned?
From what I understand the taser alone is enough for the firearm offences unless he has authority to posses section 5 firearms.
Without more information we don't know how many of the 57 "firearms" are legally held, and that number seems not to include the air pistols.

Re: Collecting banned?
According to the Liverpool Echo ( a renowned anti gun newspaper)
Among the weapons was 57 firearms , 40 large knives and machetes, 38 air pistols, 20 folding knives, ten swords, three crossbows, two axes, two wooden handled flick knives, two knuckle dusters, a zombie knife and a Taser.
Inside a shed at the back of the property they located numerous weapons including 57 firearms/air weapons, 40 large knives/machetes, 38 air pistols, 20 folding knives, ten swords, three crossbows, two axes, two wooden handled flick knives, two knuckle dusters, a zombie knife and a Taser.
Inspector Neil Birkett said: “Although a large number of these weapons were legally held by the occupier, we were hugely concerned about the sheer amount of weapons we found and the risk to the community if they fell into the wrong hands.

Re: Collecting banned?
To be honest if they are legally owned then his storage had been signed off / inspected by the police surely, especially considering the number?

Re: Collecting banned?
I am suprised that Merseyside Police have not shown pictures of the "firearms" .
