1-4-1 Variation

It has been awhile since I applied for a variation, I request to swap a unused 7.62/.308 slot for a .38/357 slot, posted it without a cheque (like I have in the past) and considered it a 1-4-1 variation as the number of guns I have authority for has not changed. My Constabulary sent it back requesting a cheque for £20. Has something changed? Are 1-4-1 variations now only free if you you are replacing a slot for a gun you have sold?

1-4-1 are free. I guess they just misread your application or are thinking of other ways to fund the extra police promised.

Hope I'd made it clear in the extra statement on the back which stated I wanted to replace my 7.62/.308 slot for .38/.357, maybe they weren't happy about my request for ammunition authority for 7.62x54 rather than just 7.62 (again have the authority, just wanted it ammended) which a few RFDs have quibbled

I reckon they've misinterpreted it and think you want an additional slot, rather than a 1-4-1.

I had a similar situation with West Mercia where I wanted to 1-4-1 a spare .22rf slot for another 7.62x54r slot.......they advised me that I'd forgot to put the cheque for £20 in so I chanced it and sent one in and my certificate came back with the .22 slot still on plus the additional 7.62x54r slot!.

Best bet is to give them a ring on Monday and see what they say.

If you use form 201V there should not be a problem. The form is a PDF and can be filled in on line and printed. Sign it and pop it in the post.

Exactly the same happened to me last year when I did the same with the Met.Police swapping a 30-06 slot for a 7.92x57, and the FEO called me up and said I should have sent in a cheque for £20.

I did the same and was told by Avon & Somerset that it was only a free 141 when having one that's been sold removed and you could have the slot changed and then only within 28 days of the sale. They let me off the charge in the end though.

Looks like the usual different constabulary different I interpretation again. This was with A&S

A recent variation with Cleveland call in to the building were they are based explain to the receptionist what you require.
If a licencing officer is available discuss with him what you want. Have a cup of coffee in reception whilst they sort it out. Leave with your certificate varied.

I recently had a 6.5x55 slot changed to 7.5x55 without charge, to purchase a very nice Schmidt Rubin K11 from Pukka Bundhooks.
I always deliver and collect my FAC by hand, as I consider it a security risk sending it in the mail and if there is a problem on collection, you're in the right place to get it sorted.
