I think the carpet needs to be free hanging, to absorb the energy without it going through.
On the same idea as the nets that archers use.

I might not need to find out, as I remembered I still have the box that my Hornady Lock'n'Load reloading kit came in, so am scrounging around the house for extra cardboard to put in that.

The amount of cardboard it is made out of is very impressive

I would tend to agree, and with a reasonable pile too. Cointract, hard rubber backed, short pile, carpet pulled tight would probably act like a drum and send a pellet straight back.

Here's my pellet trap - old ammunition box, stuffed with rags and a foam or polystyrene sheet cut to size holds it all in. I've tacked a thin strip across the centre to clip the target to (or use a magnet) and about an inch high dam to hold the debris in. Backing is fire proof concrete board. Official height for 10m pistol is 1.4m


Just bought a manual pump for £50 for the PCP's (works well and keeps you fit)

Practice, practice and more practice. :)

What pistol are you using? Are you trying to shoot one handed, competition type shooting? Are you using open sights?
