Chapuis wrote:Bobcat I think it would be a good idea for you to look up the H.O. guidance regarding teaching your daughter to shoot and the possible limitations regarding exemptions from the firearms act dependent on age and circumstances.
Also have a look at the MOD document on Range design criteria and specifications JSP 403 to give you some ideas about suitable backstops for your "indoor range". Shredded tyre actually makes a very good bullet catcher if used correctly but has certain limitations.
She is 17 so according to the law that I can see that is allowed please correct me if I am wrong.
Thank you for doc details will have a look.

dromia wrote:Also check with the firearms certification department as making a range, especially for others to use, is different from having permission to shoot and zero on your own land.

The insurance implications of such an initiative should also be investigated as should the possible need for any planning involvement.

Be aware that firearms certification departments also monitor forums such as these.
Hi Dromia thanks for the advice really more for personnel use. I have no interest in creating or running a range. I just was wondering if anyone new of a decent material for a back stops that I had not thought about. Basically just be able to zero in and teach out of the rain .

It could, but you'd need to get insurance and that is the problem, also convincing the powers that be that you are actually conducting or carrying on a miniature rifle range needs to be thought about.
Not impossible, but not as easy as just saying "I'm gonna shoot in my shed, so it is a range".
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

What about a wall of sandbags in front of a wall of railway sleepers? That ought to be plenty sufficient.
