Cynic in me says if they estimate low, they get more interest, and can advertise to future sellers that their last sale made X% over the estimates...poll007 wrote:s. Estimates might be £300-£400 yet the guns go for over £1000.

Bought from Holts and the description has been ok plus you can arrange for them to give a report
Sold stuff through there as well good stuff thats sat around for a while and ammo , in fact im dropping of a few this week for July sale
As for the prices theres a couple of estimates on there that are more than a retail new gun .......
Just dont forget the buyers premium plus VAT plus the delivery charge ......

I’m assuming the sale was the one yesterday, did you decide to bid?tonyshooter wrote:I have seen a nice English shotgun ( guide price £1500 - £2000 ), that I rather like, which comes up for sale at Holts Auctioneers soon.
Due to Covid they are not allowing "attendance in person ".
I find myself asking myself if I should bid on an item that I have not seen.
Has anyone had this scenario before, and if so what was the outcome.
Thanks.

.17HMR ammunition lots were going for a lot more than list price at Bedford a couple of weeks ago and the same goes for rimfire, a sign of the times. We are selling a huge amount of all sorts of ammunition now as people start to panic, silly really as it is for the most still available.Dellboy wrote:As for the prices theres a couple of estimates on there that are more than a retail new gun .......

Anyone thinking of buying a shotgun from auction would best advised to wait a couple of months, things are going to change very soon I reckon.

Is this because you think the firearms market is hot at the moment like cars, vans, watches etc and a correction is coming?Ovenpaa wrote:.17HMR ammunition lots were going for a lot more than list price at Bedford a couple of weeks ago and the same goes for rimfire, a sign of the times. I think it is becoming flooded and prices are going to drop quite a bit. It is not just firearms, working dog prices have quadrupled in the last 18 months and they will crash as well.

I guess if people continue to pay high prices, then the cost will remain high. Sounds like a sellers market for working dogs at the moment.Ovenpaa wrote:I think it is becoming flooded and prices are going to drop quite a bit. Re: Holts Auctioneers - Should I buy without viewing ?
I won the auction with a £800 bid on an Arthur Turner (Sheffield ) shotgun with a giude price of £1500 - £2000.
The reserve price was removed a day before the auction closed.
Holts resident gunsmith gave me an opinion on the gun and rated it 6/10.
I am intending to send it in to an RFD ( possibly F J Wiseman as they made several guns for Arthur Turners ) for a full refurbishment !

Enjoy, I have worked on and shot Turners and they are a delight to shoot. Get it fitted at the same time as it is refurbished as it will make a massive difference.
