Guntrader leak

Anyone who uses guntrader should change their password as they have had a data breech.

For a little clarity. Changing your password on guntrader after it's leaked is like trying to close the barn door after the horse has bolted. the information is out there now.

Key info for this is that the info has leaked, it contains name, address, tel, email, and an encrypted hash of your password.

If you use that password elsewhere, then it would be pertinent to change your password elsewhere than guntrader, should the hash be broken.

Luckily I've moved since the breach, but my info was still on there.

Have not logged on there for a while so had to do a password reset.

Checked my data and it is minimal, first name, initial, no phone number and just two character postcode

This email?

"Urgent notice to guntrader users

Dear

This is to advise you that guntrader is investigating a security breech involving its user database that we became aware of yesterday. This information was stolen from guntrader.uk and has been put on the dark web. At this point we believe that the only data taken was personal contact details. No password, credit cards details or any references you might have to any guns. If we get any further information that needs to be conveyed we will update you further. As the passwords were all encrypted in the database they have not been revealed however you might want to change your password for peace of mind.

We apologise sincerely for this breach.

And always worth checking through: https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if your data has been leaked although the GT list is not there yet.

Hmmm great so anyone listed can expect a line of determined and ruthless terrorists or gang members wanting firearms and stopping at nothing any time from now until well I guess forever? How very uncool and a bit of a safety issue. Could be a bit of an ugly Mexican stand off trying to convince said baddy that you have sold all you guns a while back as he has a knife to one your loved ones throats.

If this was a ransomware attack, either only a sample of the data has been put on the "dark web" and guntrader pay the ransom, or they don't/haven't and the rest of that data will be sold to someone.
