Interesting sight options, open, aperture and scope.
What does, "holds the ten ring and often the X" mean?

In Small-bore shooting the 10 ring "bullseye", x ring is centrally within the bullseye and gives further scoring from 10.1 -10.9 to how close to the middle.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

For some context as to the margins we're talking on a Bench target (NSRA) at 25 yards here's an article I wrote to show the difference a click can make on the most common graduations of scope: https://www.stegough.com/25-yard-moa-mi ... reference/

And here's an article to describe how the scoring works on 10/x's on the same targets.
https://www.stegough.com/nsra-benchrest ... 2510br-18/

There are other targets and scoring methods available and context has a lot to do with which one is being referred to in a post, but this is a typical "Ten Spot" bench Target.
