How old are you?

#1 Post by Watcher »

Discussion elsewhere considers whether shooting is doing enough to involve the young. This poll seeks to find out how old we all are.

Wait, so I can own a .55 calibre Boys anti-tank rifle, but not a .22 pistol?

Voted.

It'd perhaps be interesting if people would leave a comment on whether they feel the average age of their own club is older or younger than themselves?

Different age groups have different priorites in life , time spent sitting at a pc on a shooting forum probably isnt the priority of the majority of 20 somethings , seen these type of straw polls before and they are mainly looked at by the 50 + age groups .

I'm one of the youngest. I'm not *the* youngest, I was, though. Most shooters are 50+ in my club

One club I'm a member of, most members are well past retiremement. Two of them are in their late 80's and still shoot every week. My main club, capped at 100 members and most are in their 30s and 40s.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I am 55 this year and looking at the firing point I would say I was one of the younger people in the long range shooting disciplines at my club, there are a few younger but not many...

At 40 definitely in the bottom third of my club.

I have seen plenty of would be younger shooters look to join the club, but most fall by the way side whilst trying to navigate the various systems that are in place before they even get to shoot.
Most new members have been shooting before and want to start again, typical of this are ex pistol shooters who are now retiring and are looking to spend more time on a hobby.

Personally I am careful to make sure that the first experience a new member has of shooting is not with something that is going to take their arm of or scope them.
