Archie,

Tammi and Jon are great on this USA website but check out the £$ conversion.

These are good if they have the model you really want...

These aren't always cheap but are reliable...

And here is the current range...

Which model do you fancy?

In my opinion...

Nikon have rely thrown themselves into the rifle scope market in the last year or so. They now have a very large range of scopes and people can chose from several.
Reports rate the glass and bodies they use as good and should you find one that suits your needs then they are a safe mid range buy.

Personally I question why they have not made any 30mm tubed bodies and have stuck with the old 1 inch. Many readers will say that their one inch tubes have served them very well over the years, but many of the better known and more expensive makers have started to move on form 30mm to 35mm and up and no longer use the 1 inch tube.

Apart from field of view, this also affects light transmission, which becomes more important with higher magnification and also the space available for turret adjustment or MOA range.
Having looked at the scope you mentioned earlier this morning I see that it only has 34? MOA adjustment. I am not familiar with the calibre you are using but I wonder, even with a 20 MOA rail, if that will get you on target at 1000 yards.

I could not find a picture of the turrets without the caps on. If Nikon is using the old style turn turrets I wonder if you would be able to visually keep track of how many revolutions you have made.

Much of what I have written is of no consequence if you are using the scope for hunting, set it up for one distance and hardly ever change the zero. Should you be using it for long range target work as in F Class, then I wonder if it would be suitable.

30mm tubes are in their product range, DM.

There is a scale on the turrets which shows how many revs have been dialled in.

MOA appears to be well catered for in their various models.

Robin,

You are of course quite correct, they do make 30mm tubes. I had allowed my self to be tunnel visioned by only thinking about scopes that are in the Monarch III 5-20 x 44 style. As a F Class style shooter I have not researched the dangerous game style scopes, although it could make the competition a bit interesting!
I have looked at Nikon a number of times as a make that I know well and trust from their cameras sales. I have yet to find a 30mm tube in a Nikon full size scope ie one suitable for F Class shooting.

Its a value for money thing...some like different turrets and I can understand why...they don't compete with S&B but look how clear they are compared to Nightforce and many Leupies.

I find it very difficult to persuade people to take a look before they decide.

One day I may get a S&B.

Thanks for the advice guys

It is the Monarch 3 5-20 x 44 BDC that I am planning on, for deer shooting on a .270WSM zeroed at 200yds.
I will probably buy it in uk, as looking at prices the dollar figure is about the same as the pound figure, so going by my previous purchases from cabelas once shipping & duty is paid that is usually where things balance out.
