An interesting fairy tale - Part 1

#1 Post by EagerNoSkill »

PART 1 : The Clever Country

On a small island in a ocean far far away and few years ago….there once was a wonderful country filled with engineers, businessman, industry and enterprise.

These little country created so many wonderful things for its its people were hard working, honest, inventful, energetic, busy and filled with industry, sport, culture and laughter.
The little countries had laws, commerce and military systems that were effective and admired.
The world was awed by this wonderful country and copied so many of its practices. They admired this country for its achievements, spirit, absolute faith and steadfastness.

As time past older leaders died and had to be replaced by new leaders, but these were influenced by many clever ideas.
These “New Leaders” of this country, who had never worked a day in the lives, lived in palatial homes with their needs provided for, protected by the "state mechanisms", decided they knew best and so in their infinite wisdom they decreed the following.

1. They decreed that Human Rights existed and Law and Order would be done via soft touch and talking.
The L/O would be compassionate guide by words.
2. They decreed how the citizens should raise their children even though they themselves did not have children.
They said the state would define the way in which children would be raised and no parent would reprimand or chastise their children. There would be so many wonderful services and teachers do that – they knew better they were professionals.
3. They decreed how the citizens would run their business even though they had never run a business before.
They would create departments, NGO and institutes to regulate and advice. They would create reams of laws, hurdles and regulations.
They would replace “common sense” with health and safety.
4. They decreed that no man or woman was allowed to protect themselves or their home against attack.
They decreed that the phone and magical device called 999 would protect their citizens 24/7/365.
They demanded that citizens hand in all means of self-defence and so they did for they were very good citizens - they meekly handed in their beloved firearms, swords and clubs.
Besides they had such a wonderful army full of loyal soldiers, sailors and pilots.
5. And the establishment, the civil servants, the police, the press all vigorously supported the “Leaders” for they knew what side their bread was buttered on!

The citizens meekly complied with decrees of the "New Leaders", for they were oh so good citizens.

The rats, jackals, goblins and loons all cackled and laughed, they donned disguises and they started to prepare to feast.

The "New Leaders" said look how clever we are.

Part 2 An interesting fairy tale

#2 Post by EagerNoSkill »

PART 2 …..As time past ….
As time past the “New Leaders” continued making more and more decrees. They encouraged lots of “mini-me” leaders and mandarins to develop and execute their many, many wonderful ideas.
Some citizens questioned the new decrees. The “New Leaders” and the establishment soon decried these citizens as traitorous, selfish and or stupid. They did everything in their power to demean and destroy these citizens who dared question the wise and amazing “New Leaders”.

The rest of world continued doing what they had been taught by the “Old Leaders” for their citizens demanded what the Clever Country had.

Soon the “New Leaders” looked abroad and saw some more “New Leaders” from a big place call “Enticasia“. They all looked so clever, so well dressed and they had so many even newer ideas. They had lots of fancy meeting in amazing places, lots of minions bowing and scraping. They talked of sharing, uniform rules and law, amazing trade opportunities. They called it the “Enticasia Union”
The small island’s “New Leaders” were in awe and oh so desperately wanted to belong to this special club. So they told their citizens, this is so good, so clever we know better. We will follow this clubs rules.

So the decrees continued and the citizens had to always be aware of and comply to even more complex decrees, laws and regulations.
1. The Human Rights list got longer and longer and more complex. The courts started releasing criminals (or even failing to convict them) and started using “community orders”. Soon police officers had to be ever so gentle and careful lest they offend or hurt any criminal. But the citizens starting losing respect for and belief in courts and police since they did not get a sense of natural justice.

2. Soon citizens started seeing children losing their manners and being disrespectful and destructive. No parent or community member could correct or chastise for fear or accusation of abuse. Children, ever so wily and clever, really used the situation. Soon old practices like manners, chores, homework, and community spirit become things that used to exist. They had their “Rights” to food, clothes, toys, drinks and drugs.
There “New Leaders” looked at this and said we need more law to govern and manage look … how bad the people are. So they employed more civil servants to manage more area of the citizens lives. The “New Leaders” created a wonderful thing called “Dole” and “Benefits” for they were so wise and caring!

3. As businessman tried to run their businesses it became more and more complex to track and comply with the new law. They tried. Many business had improved some poor practices and were striving to improve across many areas. They started treating all citizens more fairly and with better benefits and some of the abuses of the past were stopped.
Yet it was more and more difficult to pay the increasing wages, red tape, taxes and penalties that the “New Leaders” insisted on. Some business people decided to take their skills to other islands far away where they had more freedom and profit.
The “New Leaders” decided that the “Enticasia Union” was not getting enough attention and started insisting that the citizens follow more and more practices and rules of the "EU".

4. Citizens started noticing that they weren’t as safe in their homes or the streets. Petty crimes and nuisances started to plaque all people and communities. People of all ages started getting assaulted, robbed and rapes and murders seem to be on the increase. The magical device called “Phone and 999” proved to be problematic. The Police may come when called, but they always seemed to arrive too late and then endless forms required to be filled.
The citizens started to find that sometimes they were forced to defend themselves or their homes, mostly with kitchens knives or their feet and fists. They then found the Police and the establishment treated them as the criminals. This was very confusing and most citizens tried to avoid this situation by hiding or looking away.
They did not dare question the wise “New Leaders”, the police and the establishment. So the Citizens drank more, watched more TV, did less sport for that required that you go outside and that was not always the safest place.

Since the Police spend more and more time talking to civil servants about forms and reports, they also needed more and more training about Human Rights and the rules of the “EU”, they spent less and less time on the streets fighting criminals. Actually they weren’t allowed to fight criminals since that may hurt the criminals!
As a result the true protector policeman left the police (or never joined it) leaving more mandarins to fill the rank. The few old school policeman were very frustrated and risked all types of ridicule should they ever question the new ways or compare them to the old ways.

5. As for the establishment, the civil servants, the “New Police”, the free press? Well they all continued to support the “New Leaders” and the “EU” for they knew all too well what side their bread was buttered on!
In fact a new newspaper was born from this unholy alliance – the Daily Rag! It only cared about sensation and drama. Little thought or effort was given to true and investigation. It proved very hand to the “New Leaders” to distract many citizens and destroy the lives and credibility of others.
It was a fearsome animal that the “new Leaders” loved to exploit for the pleasure and amusement.

The citizens continued to meekly comply with all the new decrees, for they were oh so good citizens!
But the citizens started to wonder why things seemed to complex and confusing. They did not know why they felt so alone and vulnerable.
The old citizens lived in fear! The younger citizens toiled to pay for everything and wonder why their children struggled to read and write.
Children started having children!

The rats, jackals, goblins and loons all cackled and laughed harder.
For they had now truly started to truly feast on the labours of and good of the citizens. They created scams and cons, they stole and robbed for they did not fear the “New Police” or the “New Courts” or the citizens. In fact, they decided this was so good they made sure they bred more little criminals and taught them well!
And they invited their family members and friends from far and wide to join them in their numerous “enterprises”

The "New Leaders" said look how clever we are we belong to the “EU” and we give so much benefit!

I do look forward to more of this...I think it would make dandy reading as a childrens book (teach them the truth at a young age and it will stick with them).

And in the course of time the New Leaders extended the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, and brought in a ban on typewriters and word processers: even carbon paper and pencils were considered A Dangerous Thing and possession of the same punishable by 6 years penal servitude.
