The Well Worth a Visit Thread - UK

#1 Post by Christel »

As per the title.

Been anywhere outstanding/nice/horrible/indifferent - UK?

Post a link/description please. Tell us what you thought of the visit, the drive there, the people, things on display, admission price, ok to bring dogs, anything really that springs to mind.

Warwick Castle.....not cheap but a good day out with lots going on, Falconry, Archery, Jousting and well conducted tours and talks....plenty to amuse the younger ones as well.

Fort Nelson.
Off the motorway next to Fareham.
Free to get in and a good day out.
Recently had millions of Lottery funding.
There are some "live" firing weekends and special displays through the year.

Hadrian's wall.

World heritage site on an epic scale, the finds and the interpretation just keep on coming as does access.

If you haven't spent a few days there then you should it is fantastic, history and geography combined.

I agree with you. I spent three years stationed at Hadrians Camp Carlisle. A few days would indeed have been fantastic! ;)

RAF Air Defence Radar Museum
Nr RRH Neatishead
Horning

The best museum that I have visited in many years, staffed by volunteers. Covers WW2 radar, and the cold war. Volunteers were mainly based there during the cold war, or in similar places. Bit scary when you ask one of them how close did we come to complete nuclear war. Just watch out for funny opening times if your visiting.

Agreed, my wife and I spent a weekend down that way not long after we were married, thoroughly enjoyed it and as you say a very interesting place to visit.
