School history needs revising - subject WW2!

#1 Post by Chuck »

Caught this article about a lone veteran of WW2..what REALLY boiled my liquid was the article at the end of this Telegraph story..

SHAME that we have to have such a footnote article in the first place..but such is "education" today!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04 ... e/?ref=yfp

A tearful war veteran marches alone at a Victory Parade in this touching photo which has been shared all over the world.

Hundreds of well-wishers can be seen lining the street to pay their respects to the unidentified man, seen clutching some flowers and a balloon.

The touching moment has been widely shared from a number of Facebook pages and received over a million likes - but what's the real story behind the photo?

It did not mention that nearly every soldier who landed on D-Day was AMERICAN, and that virtually no other nation took part!!!
Driving through there last year in camper, couldnt help but feel all depictions were of USA soldiers, although stopping at memorials at the road sides, the names were British regiments???

They suffered most in the war, way more than any other nation.....that unwarranted bombing of Pearl Harbour by the German Luftwaffe was carried out before war was declared...
July 4th 1940 should never be forgotten!

Spoken like a true British school boy Ratty :good:

You got to love the French
Say that to "les filles Anglaises" O:-)

I know ... Sarkozy pro-US & genrale Obama arse-licking attitude during the D-Day celebrations was nothing short of an utter national disgrace.
As far as the general population, what do you expect ? After-all the most recent generations the world over seem to learn history from Hollywood & Spielberg's stone tablets .

In the mean-time, self-hating France is far too busy spending more time on "pre 19th Century Africain Empires", that gave absolutly sweet nothing to the world and that barely left any traces to be seen today, than the French Napoleonic period that changed the map of Europe and gave most of our continent mesures & legislation.
The teaching of the 2nd WW fares hardly better and seem to be entirely dedicated to the holocaust & how the US saved us all with time to spare to brain-wash any young mind into believing that patriotism is the modern equivalent of nazism. I am actually ready to bet that less than 1% of French youth know that French troops spear-headed the Sword Beach's assault (under British uniform) and that 2 months later a landing took place in Provende let alone that over 2/3 of the troops were French.
Want to shoot pistol ? Don't retreat... reload & run forward !!

Its not much different anywhere Froggy apart from the states where they won everything...even Agincourt clapclap

Half the problem is "Official sources" that tell you exactly whatever facts suit the situation and their agenda, but as time goes by, it comes out (hopefully before them that were there pass on, which is why I think the basic soldier's and civilian's accounts are far more important than many of the official lines).

The other problem is that without perspective, or all the facts, even eye witness accounts can be false (albeit without intention).

A minor skirmish where Charles VI of France discovered Welshmen with longbows are best not disregarded when planning tactics.
Careful now/that sort of thing
