Not content with their role in the invasion of Poland, Stalins Red Army invades Fi
Bombs dropped onto the civilian occupants of Helsinki are described as "baskets of bread" by Foreign Minister Molotov.
Defending Finnish troops improvise with petrool bombs against the invading Soviet troops - the origin of the name "Molotov Cocktail", as a thankyou to Molotovfor the bread!

Official figures estimate the Soviet force as upwards of 750,000 men.
It may have been well over a million as the fatality rate may have been over 500,000 Soviets.

The world rushed to aid Finland.
One British volunteer was a young man, Mr. Lee, not long out of school.
