As an aside, the pilot who flew the Memphis Bell during the filming was Alan Walker,who was the taxi pilot when I had my taxi ride in NX611 Just Jane last year.
John Romain, the chief pilot and chief Engineer of the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford was on board the French B-17 that crashed and burst into flames during take-off at Binbrook during filming of Memphis Belle.
Two years earlier he had been on board the restored Bristol Blenheim when it crashed at Denham Aerodrome.....

Not many people around today can say they've walked away from the crash of a B-17 and a Bristol Blenheim...... :o
