He was a Mosquito man amongst other planes and I have a feeling he was credited with a possible as well. Dornier maybe?

I think he got maybe 4 or 5 kills when he was flying night fighters .

He died flying a Mosquito .

I can remember seeing a Mosquito nearly every day , fantastic engine sound .

Strangely, I thought I saw a Mosquito in the air a year or so ago, which I obviously did not. I have always wondered what it was that was twin engined, low, fast, noisy and in dark colours. (Lincolnshire Wolds)

This is Guy Gibson VC of 617 Squadron with his black Labrador, whose name has been scrubbed from history.

Regardless of that, I thought it was a good picture.

I can tell with you with 99.9% certainty that is not Guy Gibson in that photo, and I would say with another high degree of certainty, it is in fact likely to be a modern photo of someone 're-enacting' a pose of what they think Gibson would have done.

That's why I asked if it was someone you knew, assuming you knew it was a modern photo.

Salvage Hunters: The Restorers .

Blacksmith Nev is challenged to restore a German aircraft propeller from the Second World War.

This propeller was from a Heinkell 111 shot down by Guy Gibson .

Gibson's 2nd tour of ops was with 29 Squadron of Fighter Command, flying Bristol Beaufighter night fighters, which was when he shot down the He111 in question. Gibson later drove over to Skegness, and retrieved the tail section from the He111 which he took back to the officers mess as a war trophy.

I must admit it does look rather new. Lets try this version:

EDIT, comparing both images, they look to be different dogs.

Looks like Gibson's VC hanging from the dug's collar.

The dog was killed on the night of the raid, and therefore before Gibson was awarded the VC.

So, if it is his VC, its another dog.
