Many years ago I had an ex Army green waterproof jacket, it was elasticated so hugged the body and used to crease up when not in use and was noisy hence was referred to as a crisp packet.

Does anyone know what they were actually called?

Before my time slightly, so can't shed any light on them other than to say the troops didn't speak favourably.

I think of that as being '90 pattern kit. Might be wrong, I'm sure an old stalwart will be along soon.

Had one for a while
Wish I never got rid of it

Used to be NI issue & I think they were used in the Falklands too

Green nylon, double skinned, tunnel pockets.
The DPM single skinned item that replaced them was crap - but cost less = so a winner for the MoD bean counters

I think I have one of the plain green ones we had in NI in the loft.
If I remember correctly the label said they were RAF jackets.

Yes, I think they were RAF ground crew jackets....???

Edit, just found them... "jacket foulweather RAF"

In the R Aux AF we were issued with them originally, but then got the DPM sweat-boxes

That is the one thanks Daryll.

The question came about because for the second time this week we have been out with the dogs and been caught in a downpour which set me thinking about a lightweight waterproof jacket and I remembered the jacket I was asking about.

It was called the general purpose jacket IIRC.

If anything at all stayed waterproof that day then it was worth hanging on to!
