Additionally, basic tools like a lathe can be made from sand and old drinks cans.

I really fancy having a go at this lathe, is there a how to guide anywhere?

Me too, but I couldn't find anything. My best guess is you melt the aluminium cans and cast them into a lathe having made a mould in the sand. Easy eh?

It's called a Gingery lathe after it's creator, Dave Gingery.

The books are still in print - the series starts with a simple forge, then works through until you have a complete machine shop :)
