With the ever tightening MOT emissions standards in the UK there can't be many options for cars that are more likely to survive an EMP.

Any ideas? (I'm not in the market for a car, just interested)

Even my motorbike has electronic fuel injection.

A horse? pushbike?

pretty much any car on a pre a111 aaa format registration.

but got to say, doesn't EMP only affect it if it is energised? other than that, make a garage EMP proof and store a car there. but I do think if it came to it, having no car would be the start of a very long list of issues

A Series Land Rover - early ones (40 years and older) come under the historical vehicle tax exemption scheme. Vehicles 40 years and older are MOT exempt come May. And there's bugger all by way of electrics to get zapped by EMP.
Up until May the MOT regarding emissions for classic vehicles is a visual check. Post May the MOT will no longer be required but you will still need to keep the vehicle in a roadworthy condition (basically treat it as if you were about to put it through an MOT).

Having an EMP proof vehicle won't be a lot of good when all the electronic fuel pumps in garages are fried.

I think there are other things to worry about.

would the fact it's a faraday cage not protect them?

Ex MOD Armoured Personnel Carrier should do the job.

All the sensitive electronics in a car are electrically bonded to the faraday cage (negative earth system usually) so I think an EMP will kill them. Also most cars energise at least some of the ECU when they are not running to power the alarm for example and on my car the remote unlocking.

An old petrol or diesel with no electronic engine management would be the way to go.
