Here is a poor attempt at a description of the sort of work it would need to do, when reading this think "wooden Spoon".

Green 4" diameter by 8" long cherry branch good and knotty with the bark on.

Slab down to a 4" x 8" x 1" "plank".

Two lengthwise cuts 1 1/2" in from an end outside edge and 3 1/2" long.

These two cuts then removed with a cut into them from the outside edge. Leaving a sort of "T" shaped blank.
