Ammunition holding quantities

#1 Post by Eny »

I have now been signed off probation by my club and am just waiting for my membership card
In the process of filling out my FAC application form.

I will be requesting to start off with:
2 x .22 RF
1 x .308/.762
1 x .357/.38

Do these ammunition requests sound reasonable?
.22 hold 1,200
.308/.762 hold 300
.357/.38 hold 500

Thanks

I'd put 600 each for 308/7.62 and 38/357.

Always ask for more than you need, your FEO will most definitely give you less than what you ask for.

There are 2 things to consider, whatever you ask for:

1) Is the request 'reasonable'.
2) Do you have an acceptable justification for the quantity requested.

If you meet these criteria then you should be given what you ask for. You should always be ready to justify your requests and ensure you've avoided the common reasons for rejection. I would rather have a clean history of easy grants than invite future scrutiny by 'trying-it-on', and this approach has allowed me to achieve generous limits with little question.

It will, of course, vary a little depending on your area and specific FEO, and on a new application you have fewer justifications available for large limits (a new application probably isn't an international competitor requiring batch consistency over an Olympic cycle, for example).

Good luck with your application, and make sure that you are ready with your justifications and you can demonstrate that you are familiar with the guidelines.

I ( as advised by chairman of the club) asked for hold 1200 .22 and 600 of everything else just before the change in the forms so my buy levels are 1000 and 500
interestingly my .38s and .357s are separate so I can have 600 of each, the .308s, .223s, .32s, and 12 gauge slugs complete the ammo list.
So for target shooting at least initially 1200 for .22 appears to be the initial norm and 600 not unreasonable for everything else.

We asked for an increase in our holding of some calibres of canned bangs last time around. The FEO raised his eyebrows, asked if we were planning a revolution and signed it off when we said that would need an even larger increase...
