Rabbiting with .22 lbp?

#1 Post by Warbo16 »

Might sound like a stupid question but got to ask anyway. Is it legal to shoot rabbit or pidgeon with a .22 long barrell pistol? any????

Unless you licence is conditioned for it then No.
I have not seen anyone at our club that has had it conditioned only club use is permitted.

There's nowt in law that says you can't specifically, but you do need it conditioned for it on your ticket.

That said - allowed or no, there are far better tools for the job.

my ticket says, all the firearms can be used to take legal quarry on suitable land over which the holder has right to shoot !! from memory, not got it here. I thought it strange cos I have 2 LBP on ticket and remember having protracted fight with licensing many years ago when I wanted to use my Ruger single (?) six for wabbits and they refused.

Technically yes, it's possible, bearing in mind any FAC/land use policies .................................... but as nickb834 says, why would you want to when there are much better tools for the job?

Apart from the legal side of it, there is also the moral side. Any live quarry deserves a quick and painless death, which means accurate shot placement.

Generally the rule of thumb for small game is you should limit your range to that where you can consistantly hit a 1'' circle.

Using an LBP, what range would that be for you...?? and could you get that close to a rabbit or pigeon..?

For me, that'd mean rabbiting at no more than 3 yards.
