Cold base layer / Brynje

#1 Post by froggy »

I normally wear surplus British Army Norgy in winter when shooting or alpine skiing (Odlo for nordic) . They are brilliant especially given the price as long as I don't sweat too much into it.

However, after freezing my balls off for last week in France, I was thinking of up-grading to something more "technical" and I have been looking, among others, at Brynje of Norway.

I never tried their dual mesh+outer shirt . Is it as good as they claim ? Anybody here wear their stuff ? Given they are quite expensive, is it worth the money ?

I have found the decathlon base layers more than adequate, sorry not an answer to the question per se but I expect they won't be 10x as good

No experience of their stuff but the Helly Hansen "Lifa" active stuff I wear has the mesh under the outer design and replaced my old icebreaker merino stuff as warmer and more practical.

They do a Lifa merino set too but I only wear mine when the temperature is below -10 or so.

Given that the HH Lifa Merino is on offer at the Cotswalds Outdoors opposite my office for less than the Brynje stuff I would plump for the former.

Thanks Kenny. I wear Decathlon or Odlo base layer under the Norgy :good: Normally it works great with just a softshell but this time the Picardie weather managed to defeated.

Helly Hansen Lifa Merino is substancially cheaper than the Brynje one - thanks for the tip Amir. I take it you rate the mesh+merrino combo for sub zero ?

Is it that warm Greenshoots ? What do you couple it with ? Goretex ?

As you know I took the liberty of laying in some extra personal insulation for the winter and so I prefer the lighter plain Lifa unless I am stand hunting in sub zero temps.

The Cotswald's outdoors has the top and bottom set for 80 quid if you would like me to pick you up a pair?
