Buying full bore ammo around North West

#1 Post by Mikehaspey »

Hi all,

Newbie to the forum here, not long had my FAC and just picked up my first two rifles.
Until now I have always purchased ammunition used on the range from the club I’m shooting with, but for ease and also cost, I have been looking at buying my own.

I am looking for PPU .303 and PPU .308 145 grn.

I’ve looked online and found a few places that stock them but they want £45 postage for up to 1000 rounds and then my RFD wants to charge me to receive them on my behalf.

So my question is, does anyone know of a RFD in my area that will stock these and I can drive out to pick them up, I would be happy to drive an hour or so each way. I’m based near Chester.

Any help much appreciated!

I started loading my own for that very reason. .303 of any make can be difficult to get hold of. How far away is Leeds for you?

Leeds is about 90 miles, about 1hr 45 I think, so it’s just a bit too far...
Is it Henry Krank you’re thinking of?
I may have to look at loading my own, not something I’ve really thought about though!

Yes, Kranks. They are the main importers of PPU.

Whats wrong with buying it from your club?? They can write it on your ticket and ours tends to sell it cheaper than the gun shops anyway.

Valley Arms in Ruthin may have what you're after.....about 40 mins from Chester area.

I must be lucky as my club RFD doesn't charge for taking ammo in for me....

At weekends you need to call first to make an appointment (just so that you know and avoid a wasted journey).

The owner is called Derek.
