Hi all

Not sure where to put this was going to apply for my sons FAC under 18. Question can his rifle be stored in the safe but he cant access it as he doesn't know where the key is. Or will he have to have his own safe and key ?

No worries if no one knows was just trying not ring FEO and slow downs peoples licenses or variations.

My son (<18) was just about to apply for his FAC prior to the lockdown and now my local force is not accepting any new FAC applications at the moment. What we were going to do was apply for a mirrored FAC i.e. his states as mine No:...... Therefore, when I add a new firearm to my FAC it would automatically be on his since they are mirrored without making two variations. I know of at least one other person in my club who has done this. Therefore, I would retain control of the keys and access to all firearms (not sure if this is a requirement or not, need to read the Firearms Act).

Both my lads had their FACs when they were young teenagers. They each had a safe but I also had a condition on my FAC that I could possess any firearm on FAC #xxxxx and FAC #xxxxx . If you can persuade the FEO to go that route and keep the keys from them that could be easier.



I think they don't like this condition any more, although it made it so easy and safer to manage logistics with non-driving youngsters and even now after a day's shooting and one of them wants to go to the pub and I take the firearms home. I have it at the moment and have for 10 years or so.
My renewal telcon earlier this week, the FEO said they don't like the wording and wanted to list all their firearms on my FAC as well (and mine on theirs) as he thought we shared security. He asked if I really need that condition now they are in their mid 20's and we agreed to remove it as they have their own cabinets.

Sadly this option had been withdrawn by Lincolnshire as it is old fashioned and no longer best practice.

Thank you all I do like the option that Mattnall advised guess I will have to speak to my FEO to see what options I have.

I would like him to have responsibility of his own safe but would like overall control of it.
He is great lad and very responsible but I remember peer pressure at that age so would just
like the control until he is 18.

buy a small cabinet, install it in a larger cabinet, or weld on a hasp and staple or something. give him the small cabinet's key, but you maintain the security to the other lock. he can't gain access without you, you can't gain access without him....

Easier to buy an entry level Brattonsound Sentinel that has two locks, ensure they are keyed different and have one key each. Then, when he takes full responsibility you just hand over the second key.
