How much ammo?

#1 Post by midnight999 »

Out of interest how many rounds do most people go through on an average range day, been looking at ammo prices and if people are going through 2-300 rounds that's an expensive day out, or is 50-100 more the norm.

Probably 50-100 is more like it for full bore. Less expensive when you load your own.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Is that based on all the equipment one "needs" in order to reload!?
Or without it...

Needs or requires? Two different things

It depends on what I am shooting but I seldom shoot more than 120 rounds of 7mm and that would be a competition. On a normal long range day where I am shooting 800/1000/1200 I shoot 66 rounds of .308 which is 22 at each distance. I do not shoot the 7mm outside of competitions.

There have been exceptions when I have put 250 7,62x51 rounds down range in a day but that was testing a specific bullet and type of shooting, I wanted to know how much the point of impact moved when the barrel got very hot and a what point accuracy fell away.

.22LR is a different thing and it is easy to get through a few boxes.

50 or 60 does it for me.

Better to take considered shots than blaze away...... especially if its 338 Lapua Magnum ...... expensive!

Hell, on our normal, full-bore, shoots, with my club I'm lucky if I get through 30 rounds. We can only shoot for about 1.5 hours.

Wait, so I can own a .55 calibre Boys anti-tank rifle, but not a .22 pistol?
