BSA International - What ammunition?

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

I went out with my BSA International MkII yesterday afternoon to confirm zero and see how it shot and was pleasantly surprised with my eyes as much as anything however it is time for some decent ammunition. I was shooting Lapua subs and CCI Standard mostly because that is what I had to hand and they were OKish however I am sure I can improve. In the old days I only ever shot Eley Club however before I invest in a brick or two I thought it best to ask what people use for such rifles these days.

Anyone?

The better BSA shooters at our club use either Eley match or RWS R50, however the relatively recent Eley Edge seems to be doing well - same bullet profile as match but quite a bit cheaper. I've shot some really impressive groups with it using a club benchrest Martini.

Eley Match for me, too. I tried R50's, but the Eley gave the most consistent performance.

A couple of our shooters have started using Edge instead of Match (not in this type of rifle admittedly). They are reporting that its at least as good but around here its only about £15/1000 cheaper than Match.

Eley Match for me too. One that did go well in my MkIV was Federal Premium Gold Medal Match but it was a while ago and I dont know were it came from (I think it was gifted for services rendered)

I have used both match and more recently edge.

I can find little difference between the two other than cost......but I don't shoot competitively teanews

Lapua Centre X cleaner less goo & lube & accurate to ~2moa at 400yds. Groups better than TenX in my bolted down Anschutz.
Quality control of Scottish Ethanol. & RDX/HMX

& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?

My Mk.1 Martini International, shoots like a demon with RWS `Target` ammunition at around £10/100.
Maybe it's due to the Parker Rifled barrel?!
