They replied: I’m sorry to tell you that we do not have any information or technical drawings of this model left.

Alan, if you could drop your extractor out and post a picture or two I would be very grateful :)

To be honest I cannot remember what it looked like. Looking at the location it is what I would expect. It looks like the head has snapped off mine so all I have is something flush with the face of the bolt that seems to be slightly spring loaded and I cannot see how to remove it

It looks like bad news Dave - I don't think there an easy way to remove it at all. It would appear that it's fitted and then a heavy stamp/punch has crimped it in place. The only way I see is to mill a slot where the crimp is and remove the stub. The actual extractor is looks easily machined out of a bit of spring steel. A dab of mig would hold it in place ok.

This is what I visualise is there:

David, if all else fails, next time you are in London I will X-ray that bolt and we will soon know how that extractor is seated.

I agree it looks to be staked in place and considering it is now scrap for all intents and purposes I guess the only way forward is pop it in the mill and take some cautious cuts with a carbide cutter, it is an incredibly low priority job so I suspect it will be a Sunday evening. :)

An X-Ray would be ideal however I doubt I am heading to London any time soon, thank you all the same.

On a positive note we have a Sportco 71S as supplied to the British Army as the L29A2 which is of good proportion and shoots well. Downside is I could never bring myself to chop the barrel or lighten the trigger, both of which it would benefit from.

is there any reason you need to remove the old extractor body? you say it has snapped flush with the bolt face, so could you not drill and tap into that and attach a new extractor tip?

The problem is the shaft that has snapped flush with the bolt is around 2,5mm diameter at most and wobbles around so drilling it would be a PITA. My view is if I can possibly machine the staking out I can use it as a template and add a head and then cross pin it back in place. Something similar to an ejector on a centre fire.

can you glue something to it to see how far you can pull it out?

or even glue to drill? using something readily disolvable
