ICI 1942 .22lr ammunition

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

Are vintage .22lr worth anything...?
I came across an old box of ICI dated 1942.

Where could I find out their value?

Doubt they worth anything at all. Most of them will not fire anyway.

Usually find that just about any shooter who has been shooting since the 1960s will have a few boxes of the stuff in the bottom of the Ammo Safe only to be disposed of when they Die and some bugger is tasked to clear them out and all the various other mixed ammo lying around.

Not so much now but there was a time when an old shooter died relatives would find the odd German 32 Pistol or even a 303 Enfield in his shed, sadly, usually taken away by Plod.

You need to pull the ammo and dispose of the primed brass safely!

I tend to 'test fire' older rimfire that has been handed in out of curiosity and for the most it usually goes bang and does something. As far as value goes, it is only of value to a cartridge collector and unless you can find someone local to you or your club it is not going to be economical to ship a single box. Well not unless it is something very unusual like lead boxed .450 Express with the royal crest on it :)

i did manage to sell a number of odd 22 ammo cartons on ebay for ~£5-£10 each. There are collectors & age of carton is an attraction.

it seems a shame to destroy the ammo but it may become unstable or just inert. Test fire it if not pull the heads & pop the primed cases in a can & put that on the gas stove :run: lol

I had a couple of boxes of this stuff , I tried it in an old martini BSA target rifle and it all went bang , accuracy was equal to the cheap brown box Eley (standard) and the rabbits never complained , bit smokey I seem to remember .

I still have a couple of dozen rounds of .22LR Tracer and they are one of the few I have that I have never tested :)
