3-5" a week is quite a lot, we have seen 8.8mm (Third of an inch) total this year. Also 18F is too cold as far as I am concerned! Here (Lincolnshire Wolds) we have seen it dip to low 20'sF a couple of times which is cold enough for me.

Roger, I was talking to a customer yesterday who uses industrial thickness strimmer cord as an empty chamber and bolt hold open device, apparently it works quite well with a bit of sticky tape at one end so you can see it more clearly. He is a farmer so I suspect the strimmer he uses is a bit bigger than the average garden thing :)

Nice! I like the Marlin 795 also, I'm building a wooden stock for mine (slowly...).
