.22 ARs are quite spendy for what you get, considering you can find a 2nd hand 12" VQ barrelled Ruger 10/22 for the same price as a 2nd hand Colt M4gery, with it's terrible trigger and shrouded pencil barrel.

A 12" barrel 15/22 with the round 2nd gen handguard and some airsoft carry handle iron sights could be made to look closest to the M4 stylee and still leave you options to upgrade as her skills progress.

Here's my 2nd S&W 15/22 in it's final form before I sold it.

And here's what I replaced my 3rd CMMG and 2nd S&W with.

I started with a standard 16" barrel quad railed S&W 15-22 and ended at a 12" match chamber barrelled mil-spec AR fed with 15-22 mags.
Everybody's journey is different and the rifle I ended up with wasn't cheap in 2011 when I got that 1st 15-22.

Been a while but have an update......settled on a Kriss Defiance that I got as a package with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 scope and cantilever mount, a raft of Magpul upgrades, a titanium firing pin and extractor plus two original Kriss 15 round mags and two S&W 25 round mags

Currently looking at going down the same route. Need to get rid of my my old CZ semi auto and sort the 1for1 out first.

I did look at a 2nd hand H&K 416D yesterday, but think its over priced at £650, I believe its the same as a Hammerli Tac R1 (Umarex). Probably going to end up with a 15-33 or Kriss Defiance.
