NRA Life Membership makes no sense...

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

A. Overseas members get it £2000 cheaper, when its a UK national body...
B. Its £250 more expensive to pay for it over the 7 year period (Interest? when you're paying such a HUGE amount for membership?)
C. Its the equivalent cost of 71+ Years of membership at full standard cost.

What extra are you paying for to be a life member, because it doesn't look very appealing from where I'm sitting :/

I'm pretty sure that the NRA aren't sat in the same zero-inflation place as you. Assuming today's inflation rate of 2.2% the lump sum is equivalent to about 43 years of annual payments. Of course you could invest the lump sum and try to beat inflation and pay your annual sub. Maybe you'd be better off, or maybe you'd loose the lot, maybe shooting would be banned, maybe you'd be hit by a bus. Who knows?

Life membership is also a way of showing support for our NRA both financially and morally.

It was certainly worth it when I did it back in the nineteen :squirrel:

It might be your NRA but it certainly isn't mine and I'm a member, don't start me on the latest load of tosh from them about the subsided Sport England courses. Non Bisley shooters have again had the two fingers put up at them by the NRA.

See you're talking C*** again Dromia.

For your info we have had in the region of 400 people book onto courses - the majority of them (around 300 places) being run in the regions.

If we could get any funding out of the other sporting regions then we would put courses on there but they are being tight with the purse strings. Maybe you can aim your ire in their direction.

So are we supposed to refuse the funding we can get - even if it has limitations - just so as not to offend people like you?

Shouldn't shooters in England be encouraged to do courses, especially if we can do it cheaper, or is training only for those who choose to live elsewhere and seem to consider themselves special as a result?

This is my personal opininion, no-one elses - just in case you are interested in the opinions of someone who lives in England.

Heather thank you for that, I won't go into the details here of my points as I am feeding them back through my regional rep.

However for the record it is also the opinion of one club of which I am chairman with nigh on 100 members as well as other shooters who have approached me indignant about the Bisley centric way this has been run. No you shouldn't refuse the money but you should ensure that the NRA resources are used equitably to hold the courses.

By the way Heather I have been meaning to ask what was the outcome of my feedback to the NRA about the state of the "refurbished" toilet block in the "C" lines at the Imperial?

Look forward to seeing them.

There is nothing Bisley centric about this apart from a couple of courses run here for people who shoot locally. As I said, the majority of the training is in the regions, how can that be Bisley centric?

Has your club actually approached us about running a course for you?

Yep, you are right, our resources are actually being used 'non-equitably' - in favour of the regions! I know it's novel but at least credit us with moving in the right direction - outwards!

The shower heads have been re-fitted and shower curtains are in place.
