Alternative to RPA Trakker Sights

#1 Post by rhysatkins »

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone new of any decent alternatives or is it better to not bother and just bite the bullet.

I quite like the Trakker, they are also available second hand and you can find good examples if you hunt around.

Warners - probably the Rolls Royce of rearsights, but not being made at the moment:

Gleve - maybe the new Bentley of sights; available to buy now:

I don't know much about Audi TTs but if they're in the same category as Trakkers I guess they need regular maintenance!

Maybe the Centra:

or the later Brindles (with backlash correction).

Both the above are fairly rare. Trakker parts and service expertise are relatively readily available, and at that price level they're a good choice.

Second hand Trakkers are in the same category as rocking horse poo. I spent about 18 months looking for a s/h set. All the ones (the few) that I found went for almost the cost of brand new units. I did find a set on a bidding website which nobody else had seen and managed to get them for a price I was very happy with. Just very very lucky.

The only other options that I'm aware of are the ones already mentioned.

The Gleves look nice and well engineered but I'm not keen on the price or the unnecessary extra quick height adjustment on it.

I have an RPA in 7mm-08 and it's my "keeper". Always wanted to take the rail off and put some irons on it for a giggle....

Obviously the irons would have to be Trakker to be in keeping...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

The nice thing about irons is the apparent absence of mirage on a hot day.........
