Help me find a rifle...

#1 Post by Sim G »

Right guys, got a wee task.

Looking for a rifle, with some fairly strict criteria. And trust me, it’s not easy to fill!

Bolt action rifle from a half decent maker. Chambered in .223, twist rate not important. Barrel length at least 22” and MUST be fluted. MUST also not be a “heavy or varmint” profile. Sporter preferred or medium if has to be. MUST be stainless.

Suggestions please!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I considered the Howa, but the current list doesn’t have a fluted sporter. The Tikka T3X Hunter is available in a fluted stainless, but only possibly for the US market...

I’ll have a little peruse of the Browning site now....

For my education, are fluted barrels for heat dissipation, looks or something else?

They give you a much better purchase with mole grips when removing the barrel from the rifle

Lol

Fluting is generally for weight reduction and like you said to increase surface area for more efficient heat dissipation.

Found one. Well a rifle anyway....

Somewhat different to what I was looking for. Got an absolute belter in the end! Turns out in a different caliber and a heavy barrel!!! lol lol lol

But, I haven’t seen any other like these in the UK.... a custom gun for off the shelf money as well!!!
