Redding Die Bullet Pointing Inserts – A quick guide.

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

Our bullet pointing system for the Redding Competition Seating Die comes with full instructions however I was asked for a quick guide to setting up the Redding Die so here goes:

Unscrew your Redding Competition Seating Die and remove the inner sleeve

Slide the new bullet pointing sleeve in place with the tip tool and spacer in place and re-assemble the die.

Screw the Redding Die micrometer drum down until it is a round 12,5mm/0.500 inch from the bottom.

Place the anvil onto the shell holder cut-out on the top of your press ram and raise the ram to the top.

Screw the Redding Competition Seating Die with pointing insert into the press until the sleeve just touches the top of the anvil and tighten the lock ring to maintain position (Make sure you can still unscrew the Die!)

Lower the ram and place your chosen bullet onto the anvil and raise the ram so feeding the bullet into the bottom of the new sleeve in the Die, leave the ram in the fully up position.

Hold the Redding Die Micrometer drum firmly in place and insert an Allen Wrench(Hex key) into the hole in the top of the Die. The Hex key will be the larger of the two supplied with your Redding Competition Seating Die. Screw the wrench clockwise to advance the inner stem down.

When you feel resistance stop. This is the inner pointing tool starting to contact the top of the bullet.

You can now lower the ram slightly and wind the micrometer drum down in single increments until you have the preferred level of pointing to your bullet.

Take care to carefully inspect your bullet after each adjustment to ensure the jacket is not starting to buckle below the modified section of the Meplat.
