S-Class 2013 April (300m) Results

#1 Post by Sandgroper »

Before anyone says ttiuwp I know that and pictures will follow once I get a chance!

This is a brief range report and a reminder that I need your results for April if you're shooting the postal competition.

Cawdor 14/04/2013
Today started off overcast with rain, but after lunch the rain cleared and the sun came out. This was in time for us to move back to the 300m point and shoot the postal competition. It was at this point the wind started to blow and blow it did. ****

The wind was generally blowing straight down the range, however it was gusting very badly and was blowing very, very hard. The range flags were not much help as the one behind the mound, when it wasn't trying to wrap itself around the flagpole was pointing straight down the range. Yet, the one next to the butts was indicating the wind was blowing constantly from right to left! In short - very challenging. Image

The order of fire was Andy632, Yorrick, myself and Waterford103. Before I list the scores, I'd like to mention that Waterford103, was shooting at an unfamiliar range and prone unsupported, as the bipod was too short, in a buffeting wind. By the time he shot it was really blowing a gale - IMO he was really sticking to the spirit of the class, given the circumstances. clapclap

Scores (Max 50)

Andy632 - 45
Yorrick - 38
Sandgroper - 30
Waterford103 - 5

I will go into more detail on the S-Class website over next couple of days and post pictures on there and here. All in all a good start :good:

A good day for learning (or getting reminded again) about what wind really can do to grouping!
Thoroughly enjoyed it - Thanks Sandgroper!
Would it make sense to add our rifle / scope / calibre & ammo details to the results??
I shot my card with my Sako 308 (20 inch barrel) with Zeiss 7 x 50 glass shooting some old RG 762 ammo I found at the back of the cupboard. The next longer range round of the comp will be interesting with that scope!!!
Being more a field based rifleman I'm not particularly into competitions but I have to admit that this did help to concentrate the few little gray cells & liven up the day!

sign92 It was a really good day, wind notwithstanding.

I'm going to make up a table with all the details and put it up on the S-Class website, but for those who can't wait-

Andy632 - AR-15 S/P, 223-75gn AMax
Yorric - Sako 85 B/A, 308-RG Milsurp
Sandgroper - Rossi S/S, 223-55gn PMC
Waterford103 - Brno 601 B/A- 243

I shot it with my Rossi as the load development for the 257 wasn't up to speed and I plan fingerscrossed to have it ready for the full comp in June. I'll being shooting the rest of the postal comp with Rossi - 600m will be fun!

Yes, there are 11 shots on his target - one of his 5s was dropped as a penalty.
