Barton Road F Open competition

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

Some of us did not make it to Blair Atholl and instead decided on an F Open meeting at Barton Road today shooting 800/1000/1200 yards.

For me it was going to be interesting as I was shooting 175SMK's in my 7mm with no load development and no drops, just 60 grains of N560 and build then ten thou off the lands and see how it went.

800 started of over cast, ended in quite heavy rain and returned a 72.05 ex75 for me.
1000 was hot, bright sun with difficult wind and mirage and I scraped 57.01 ex75 with over pressure signs that were enough to force me to withdraw from 1200 which is a first for me.

So final score was

800 72.05
1000 57.01
1200 00.00

Total 129.06 ex200

Not a lot to gloat about over that then. By the end of the 1000 I had decided that me and 175SMK's really do not mix but talking to the others it sounds like the conditions caused some head scratching. Roll on my 180's arriving and I can get my head down properly.

Been there done that more times than sense should allow and regretted it every time.

Still the best laid plans of mice and men. ;)

Some good shooting sir and I I would say if anything it was a tad less than 10" Blast that flier though!

Pity I had to bale out for 1200 but things were not looking good for the 175's and my 7mm and as the temperature rose I was having to give my bolt handle a good clout to open it. Too much pressure.
