Parallax focusing/range finding accuracy

How accurate for range finding purposes is the parallax adjustment/focus on a scope?

It's better for short range, getting progressively worse the further out the target is.

The FT and HFT guys use it a lot and with much success apparently as their ranges are generally much closer than even rim fire cartridges. To get the benefit even at these shorter ranges a large wheel is attached to the paralax wheel to give a bigger diameter to gauge the distance/focus with more precision.

Even the scope manufacturers say that the distance scales on the turret are only a guide and not a direct measuremt.

I want to know this for hunting so I don't have to carry a range finder.
I'm shooting out to 200 yrds ish at the most.
If they are accurate to say 10 yds at 200 yds then that should do I guess.
I suppose there is the variable of eyesight too, one mans focus will not be the same as the other mans.
Oh, what a dilemma

For hunting zero at 100 yards and then set the point of impact 1" high and forget everything else.

If you can't get within 100yrds max of any UK quarry then you are not a hunter.

Be very unlikely to get within 10 yards at 200. It's an art to tell between 50 and 55 yds with a 50x scope set up for ft looking at pellet marks on a steel plate.

I have had a lot of fun stalking my quarry, equally I would not think twice about shooting a Fox at 175 yards and certainly would not try and get closer as they are constantly moving. Having said that a customer stalked two that were enjoying the early morning, not to get closer, just to get them in line so he could despatch them with a single shot from his .30-06
