Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Anyone considered to be a scammer will be banned without warning.

Open days and guest days are different things. Open days anyone* can rock up and have a go, guest days the person needs to accompany a full member of the club. My indoor club runs guest days every month (1st Saturday IIRC). Only problem is there's so many people there it puts off the regular members!

*that isn't a prohibited person

I run guest days 9 times a year all our full bore shoots are guest days have done since the Club started. Probably at least 15 years ago. I just assumed all clubs ran guest days.

I have to ask how did people end up questioning about guest days when this thread is obviously about a totally different subject. It's supposedly about UK bans pidgeon and crow shooting.
Or did I miss something?

Via associated discourse, thus:
safetyfirst wrote:Every time this happens, or in fact every time we get a free day at the weekend, we need to get someone who’s not shot before and take them out shooting.

The only way public opinion will change is if more of the public see how much fun, satisfaction and pleasure shooting can bring.

So save your online forum rants people and instead call that mate who once said they’d like to come and give it a go.

Then I said:

"A great pity the NRA stopped holding the open days. Having heard about these from a fellow smallbore shooter, two of us attended just for a laugh, got hooked, and joined the NRA on the strength of our first go with a centrefire rifle at 1000yds.

At a subsequent one, a couple of neighbours joined us to see what it was all about.

(Please note, any NRA hierarchy who may be reading this.......!!)"

Et voila !!

General Licences – please act now!

Dear member,

We need your help in two ways. There is no time to waste.

We want general licences that are fit for purpose so that you can be confident that you are acting lawfully when you shoot and/or trap pest birds such as woodpigeons, crows and magpies.
1. Email your views to Defra

After intense lobbying by BASC and other rural organisations, Defra has taken over decision making on general licences from Natural England. Defra now wants evidence from those who have been affected by the withdrawal of the three main bird pest control general licences (GL04, GL05 and GL06) for England on 25 April. This personal experience is important to the outcome of the Defra review

Please email Defra to explain how the events of the last 2-3 weeks may have restricted your ability to shoot or trap pest birds in England and any impacts this has had on livestock, crops, wild birds etc. Any specific examples you can give on damage or losses would be most useful. Be polite, concise and to the point.

Remember that, under law, general licences allow shooting for the control of pest species and not for sport. It may help to use your own words to answer the following questions:

• How effective and practical as a means of control are the alternatives to shooting?

• What is your experience of the benefits and practicalities of the old general licences (withdrawn on 25 April 2019)?

• What problems did you and others experience due to your inability to shoot and/or trap when the three licences were revoked; what was the impact?

Email your views to glevidence@defra.gov.uk by 5pm on Monday 13 May.

Click here for more information on the call for evidence.
2. Help us make our case to Defra: complete a 5-minute survey

BASC will be providing Defra with a detailed submission and we have launched a survey to gather the evidence that we think will help influence decision makers.

Click here to complete the survey:

Please forward this email to your shooting contacts.

Thank you for your help in fighting for a common-sense approach to bird pest control in England.

No doubt wasting more time and resources planning the next attack, let's face it he isn't going to give up!

However, credit where credit is due the government have stepped up and have looked at the facts.
