Hidden Shooting Clubs

#1 Post by Pippin89 »

I have just discovered, to my utter amazement, that there is a rifle club local to me that I never knew about. Not just in the same county or even a few towns away.... IN THE VILLIAGE I LIVE IN! It looks like a reasonable club too, 100m range, HOA, fullbore, muzzle loaders, pistols etc.
I have lived here for nearly 6 years and had no idea of its existence. I appreciate clubs generally like to keep a low profile but how is it so bad that I can be completely unaware of a club so near by.
Needless to say I have immediately enquired about membership.

Perhaps a reflection on how well, or other wise, you have integrated with the local community?

Or a reflection on how well the club has integrated with the local community... Given my surprise of not having knowledge of the clubs existence, and the fact that no one I have spoken to had knowledge of it either (including some that have lived here their entire lives), this would seem more likely.

Wouldn’t the sound of gunfire be noticeable in a small village?......

So the individual members aren't locals then?

Not necessarily.

Could be an enforced use of moderators, or be in a location that reflect the noise away from the houses. Or it could even possibly be heard, but be a normal sound in the area that people ignore automatically.

Maybe it is the "Secret, Silent, Secluded, Solitary, Stealthy, Surreptitious, Surrey Shooting Society"!

It'll be like these lost tribes in the Amazon rainforest. - Lived quite happily, doing their own thing, for ten thousand, discovered and "helped" by civilisation and all gone down the pan in the next twenty years.
