To be honest as soon as I saw that rifle (on his channel and Demo Ranch) i thought it was an accident waiting to happen. There's no way i'd put my face directly behind a breach where there's not even a receiver to take the blow if the thing blows up kukkuk

Seems every (well most) shooting channel(s) on YouTube has an opinion on why the incident occurred.

I had a bunch of corroded steel 7.62X54R cases fracture and pepper my face with burning powder and bits one time.
Seems rather trivial now. :)

According to Dean Michaelis, author of The Complete .50-Caliber Sniper Course - Hard Target Interdiction, sabot rounds should not be fired through rifles with incompatible flash hiders, compensators, muzzle breaks, etc.
Apparently, residue from the plastic builds up within their gas take offs, flutes, call them what you will, clogs them, and causes pressure build up. Sounds perfectly logical. And given the rounds are of unknown origin it follows that he couldn't possibly have known if the muzzle break was designed for that particular round.
Given the results, I'm guessing not.

So ... not so freak after all.

the thread looks like a standard thread, why wasn't it a stronger form like an acme thread?

No formal independent proof testing for firearms in America, it's down to each manufacturer to decide if his product is safe. A manufacturer will most probably test fire each gun made but not fire with a proof round as done here in the UK and Europe with every gun offered for sale.
