Re: Nationwide public survey of Firearms
Truly as the "public's" view is undoubtedly that there should be no private ownership of firearms.
No doubt that would make an easier world for the police as they would not need firearms certification departments.
I am so looking forward to our "national" bodies mobilising the shooting community on this and no doubt they are already asking, nay demanding, to have input to the survey.
Then again maybe not, I have just looked out of the window and no pigs were seen to be flying overhead.

The pigs we should worry about are the ones' in our back yard ! Our shooting organisations are guilty by reason of zero activity .

We're really worried about golfers. Summat should be done about them too. More people are killed each year by golfers than by firearms owners. They openly carry clubs and what useful, law abiding purpose is there to own a club other than for hitting things? They band together in elitist organisations, and talk about hitting things and putting then in holes. Won't anybody think of the children? We need a survey now... a ban tomorrow. Registration and a tax at the very least

Re: Nationwide public survey of Firearms
I wrote to basc about 5 days after the plymouth tragedy. I explained that they need to pro active NOW in the press and on national TV as all I had seen was anti gun ownership"experts". It was mentioned on tv that the shotgun had been given back but the various association s should have been making a big thing of it .There was no coverage how for the third time, murderers had been given the shotguns or firearms back ! I pointed out that the existing system had indeed found out people who should not have certicates. The system only failed when it came to handing stuff back! I wrote, it will be too late to fight our corner when new legislation is published. I realise that they do not to prejudice any inquiry as to why the shotgun was handed back. They later put a statement on the basc website stating what they are doing . I did not a reply to my letter.

Anyone seen it anywhere except this small newspaper link?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

It NEEDS to be a review of how police handle the system but somehow I think it will certificate holders will AGAIN pay the price for the failings of police.
