Cleaning guns

#1 Post by bradaz11 »

Well I'm usually the sorry that wipes my guns over and locks them away until the next use. But i do clean the barrels every now and then, just not all the time.
Well, Easter weekend i had a cowboy comp, and first stage i had 5 misses from 5 in one revolver, and 2 misses from the other. Assumed it was new just not getting into it. Next stage 4 and 1, wtf was going on. Went to clean over and check the revolvers, found the barrels severely leaded, like a 32 hole in a 44 barrel, leaded...
So changed guns and finished the weekend, placing 3rd on the Saturday and winning on Sunday. ( Those misses cost me 2nd on the sat)
So today i spent some time cleaning barrels. One very good tip i found was to use a brass scourer/ scrubber, chop it up and wrap it round an old bore brush.

After a few 3 mins, and a wipe with 009

Yes i'm going to reluctantly clean my S&W 15-22s (.22lr) barrel this week as the accuracy has dropped off. Probably only has 50k rounds on it as well 8-) lol

i found my barrel on that to be fine, it was more the build up of crap between the top og the upper and the barrel, had to take the barrel out to clean it properly. surprised it wasn't pushing the top of the barrel down.
