Hi all

Just wondering if anyone is reloading MH 577/450 with anything other than black powder? Asking for a friend

Would also have to get a black-powder license, and all that is associated with that.

Yes but it is truely worth it, the licence is free and the only real investment is the box.
I have found that shooting black powder a real joy especially from a MH.
I have even started reloading black for my 1860 Henry.

I suppose I should look into it, not sure what to do now. 15 years ago I used Pyrodex in a revolver and it was just like buying any other powder.

What do you use, powder-wise?

I use Swiss no3 (2F), I made a box to store, but brought one in the end as needed more space.
It's worth a look if you want the full Martini Henry experience.
Reloading is a whole experience and something that really makes the shooting that much better.

I used to shoot black powder in my Martini Henry before I retired it. I might re-instate it some day but I have enough to be going on with. We had a club member who only used to shoot smokeless in his Martini Henry but I don't know what he used.

It is strange that in this world of firearms legislation getting an explosives license for black powder is the simplest and easiest application there is yet in some peoples minds it seems monumentally difficult and bothersome to the point that they don't apply.

Very little time cost and no financial cost other than a box, it is even said that in some counties there is only one BP box and the explosive license holders pass it round before the inspections, as this is illegal I suspect that it must be some southern county in the s*** hole london area.

my box is just a small box made out of thick ply, hinge and hasp and staple. with some seal round the top. thats it.
I was also informed it had to be secured to the building - something I really strongly disagree with as the whole point was the box should be easy to get out your house in an emergency.
