6.5mm Creedmoor

#1 Post by Sky888 »

I have .223 and .308 rifles for target shooting at Bisley.

Is it worth getting a 6.5mm Creedmoor as well?

If you are planning to take to Stickledown then I think the 6.5CM would fit the bill.
I have a shooting buddy in the US who has just purchased an Accuracy International in 6.5 Creedmor and he regularly smashes clay pigeons at 1000 yards with it.

Capable shooters smash the middle out at 1000 yards with the calibres the OP already has.

Only the OP can decide the 'worth' of adding a rifle in a different chambering, and that will depend on his motivation for wanting one. Maybe he thinks he has reached the ballistic limitations of his existing cartridges, maybe he feels he will never be able to read the wind and wants to buy a little bit of a margin. Who knows. Of course, he could always rebarrel his .308 in 6.5 CM, but then he wouldn't be getting a 'new' rifle.

Think it all depends on which .233 and .308 the OP owns. I have a .223 (Remington 700) and a .308 (AI AT). I have not shot the .223 beyond 600 yards, the .308 (26 inch barrel using 185 Lapua bullets) is inconsistent in triggering the electronic targets at 1000 yards (will for 900 yards). That's why I have 6.5 Creedmoor rifles/AI barrels.

Geek

AI AT (.308/6.5CM), Ruger PR (6.5CM), American Rimfire (.22LR), Remington 700 (.223), Marlin underlever .38/.357/.44, Savage 6BR, RimfireMagic .22LR, Fabarm Lion (s1), Fabarm Axis Baikal S/S

Hmmm... after some consideration I have submitted a variation for a .338.

Let's see if it gets granted first! Thank you all for your inputs.

Seems an odd choice considering you indicated that you may want to use it at Bisley and you can't use 338 at Bisley as its prohibited by the NRA.
