I believe that only Lothar Walther uses a different grade of steel than other manufacturers and hence the only concern is (frankly) quality control and (more the point, imho), who installs the barrel for you.

Yes, Bill, it is Lothar Wallther.

The installer is the real question. Fitting it depends on his skills, and the tooling he uses for cutting ghamber and throat. On this point, trusting the reamer makers for dimensional and angles respect is not always a good thing.

Having passed quite a lot of reamers from the great makers names under shadow projector has made me quite skeptical about...

I love my Walther barrels, albeit that one of them was possibly mishandled in the fitting. I have heard a number of gunsmiths bemoan that the steel is really tough and the wear on their reamers gave them pause. I now have one Walther and one Krieger; both shoot beautifully. Over the years I have had Schultz (non-stainless), Border, Walther and Krieger. Frankly, they all shot... Although the Walthers really do last.

Oh and Allesandro, lovely to meet you, glad to see you got home safe!
