to avoid the worst of the recoil ignore everything they teach about rifle shooting now, none of that getting behind the rifle in a straight line, the old timers didn't shoot at an angle to the rifle because it looks good ;) it takes the recoil off your collarbone and puts it into muscle. when I did a RN marksman course many years ago through the Sea Cadets I survived by using a folded up Tee shirt under my No8 shirt :oops: just as well the CPO GI didn't see it :grin:

Once upon a time we would have shrugged off 200 rounds of big canned bangs. We know all about holding the rifle properly, lying at an angle and rolling with the kick. We think it's just a sign that we are getting old...
