FirearmsUK - Unity 2015

24" and less, a place to discuss all things handgun related, section 7.3. Long barrelled revolvers, long barrelled pistols and section 5. Overseas contributions are more than welcome.

I've had a run in with Firearms UK in the past. They are a bunch of know nothing's on Facebook. They are also "out there like Pluto" I wouldn't be so quick to support their initiative.

Ah. Now it comes out. Hmm. Thought this was the initiative we'd been expecting and could all rally behind...

Of course he won't. Why would anyone want to own a handgun except to defend themselves?

Why would anyone want a rifle except to defend themselves?
Why would anyone want a military looking rifle except to act out their fantasies?
Why would anyone want a shotgun except to think their lord of the Manor?
Why would anyone want a fac shotgun except if they thought they were tackleberry?
Why would anyone want a black powder pistol except impersonating John wayne?
Why would anyone want a martini Henry except if they had a wish to shoot zulus?

Do me a favour..................

Erm, you might have missed some sarcasm. I think outsider might be supportive of your views.

Apologies if anyone thought different,I was merely making a sweeping statement that non pistol shooters spout on occasion......one has lots of apathy about the 97 reclassification.....

It'll be interesting to see how much support the national bodies give this initiative?

NRA & UKPSA both run LBP events so logically you'd think they'd get right behind it.

BASC have no reason to other than they do promote shooting generally and they loosely supported the previous epetition although I did note there was no evidence of any support at the British Shooting Show as they promised.

Sportsmans Association will likely mention it in their regular GunMart column.

NSRA - More chance of platting fog but ironically those squared toed shoe wearing folk would stand to benefit the most!

GB Shooting - See above.

CPSA and any other claybashers - Highly unlikely, not sure they event consider themselves part of the licensed shooting community?

Hopefully I'm being overly pesimistic and they all prove me wrong?

Care to expand on that a bit more?

I'm pretty sure FirearmsUK as a group doesn't promote armed self-defence, though perhaps some of their members are in favour of it.

As for the national bodies supporting this - the NRA isn't interested in being a public voice for target shooting, BASC doesn't give a damn about anything it can't claim the credit for, I can't even remember the last time I saw the NSRA make a public statement about anything, and I'd expect British Shooting to be against this given the "toys for me, not for thee" tone of their last notable press release about pistol shooting.

Ultimately the only way the NRA and others will come to be supportive of efforts like this is if most shooters make it clear to them that in order to retain members, that is what they must do. Unfortunately with current attitudes among shooters, I can't see that happening....
